Fractured Dance


Michael A. King, Telford, Pennsylvania, is pastor, Spring Mount (Pa.) Mennonite Church (1997-); publisher, Pandora Press U.S.; and founding editor, DreamSeeker Magazine. He has been pastor in a variety of congregations in diverse settings.

In addition to his most recent book, Fractured Dance: Gadamer and a Mennonite Conflict over Homosexuality (Pandora Press U.S., 2002), King is author of Trackless Wastes and Stars to Steer By: Christian Identity in a Homeless Age (Herald Press, 1990), of many articles published in a wide variety of magazines and journals, including The Christian Century and Christian Ministry, and of “Kingsview” columns in Christian Living (1989-1997) and DreamSeeker Magazine (2001-). He is co-author, with Ronald J. Sider, of Preaching about Life in a Threatening World (Westminster, 1997) and co-editor, with David B. Greiser, of Anabaptist Preaching: A Conversation Between Pulpit, Pew, and Bible (Cascadia, 2003).

King holds a Ph.D. (1998) in rhetoric and communication from Temple University, Philadelphia; an M.Div. (1982) from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Philadelphia; and a B.A. (1976) in Bible and philosophy from Eastern Mennonite University (EMU), Harrisonburg, Virginia. He is a member of the Franconia Conference (Mennonite Church USA) Faith and Life Advisory Council, chair of Haverim, an EMU alumni group supporting the EMU Bible and Religion Department, and a member of the Eastern Mennonite Seminary Preaching Institute steering committee.

The oldest of nine children, King was born in 1954 in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, but soon taken to Cuba by his missionary parents, Aaron and Betty King. He lived in Cuba until age five, then in Mexico until college years. King is married to Joan Kenerson King, of Olean, New York, a family therapist and registered nurse who serves as consultant in various areas of public health policy. Michael and Joan have individually and jointly served as speakers and resource persons in many settings. They are parents of Kristy (b. 1981), Katie (1984), Rachael (1988) and share homemaking.
